Fun Day for the Dogs
Sunday ONLY, 10 am– 5 pm

Soccer Fields – next to Columbine Public Library
“Fun Day for the Dogs”, held on Sunday, September 20 is pleased to announce an exciting day of activities.  These events are free to spectators and their furry friends! (Note: current rabies tag and ID tag are required and dogs must be leashed.)

“Fun Day for the Dogs” sponsored this year by Deer Creek Animal Hospital, is pleased to announce an exciting day of activities to be held on Sunday, September 20th as part of the 2009 Summerset Festival. These events are free to spectators and their furry friends! (Note: current rabies tag and ID tag are required and dogs must be leashed.)
There will be dog-related businesses selling your pet's favorite treats, apparel, toys and all sorts of fun pet stuff. Many of your favorite pet charities will be present so this is your chance to adopt that cute puppy or older dog you’ve been talking about adding to your family. Bring your pet-related questions – vets and pet care experts will be present with answers and advice.
Best of all, there will be fun activities for you and your dog to participate in – learn how to take your dog through an agility course…show your furry best friend how to catch a Frisbee…pick up some special treats for Fido. Enjoy the talents of Bryce Jackman of Jackman Brothers Productions as the official MC for Fun Day for the Dogs!

Summerset Festival is privileged to have our local Deer Creek Animal Hospital as this year’s presenting sponsor of Fun Day for the Dogs.  They will be on-site to offer educational and entertainment programming, ranging from pet health to obedience training.  Be sure to visit their booth during the event, meet their staff, watch for their informative sessions on the Fun Day for the Dogs stage and don’t forget to visit the Deer Creek Animal Hospital web site.

In addition, we are pleased to have other attractions at Fun Day for the Dogs this year:

  • COLORADO DISC DOGS will be hosting the “UFO Longshot Event”; a unique LONG DISTANCE Frisbee dog competition.  The UFO Longshot event is an exciting multi round event that will challenge competitors to make the big throws, yet rewards consistency as well. The dog that brings home the big catch will be crowned the Longshot Champion! In between rounds, the club members and their talented canines will offer amazing freestyle demonstrations where athletic skill and grace are choreographed to music.  The club also donates a considerable amount of time each year supporting local and national charities and humane organizations. You can find more information on the Internet for the Colorado Disc Dogs, inlcuding contact information .
  • ROCKY MOUNTAIN AGILITY DOG TRAINING CENTER will be sponsoring and providing an AGILITY FUN MATCH for all breeds and sized dogs.  Agility is a sport you can play with your dog for fun or at competitions. Teamwork is emphasized as the handler safely maneuvers their dog around an agility obstacle course. To participate in the Fun Match, the dogs must have some agility experience.  The $5 entry fee will be donated to the Summerset Festival to benefit the Foothills Park and Recreation District.  The Match will start at 10:00 AM and continue until all runs are complete.  Sign up your dog when you arrive - in the height you wish to jump.  The same course will be used for all runs with changes to the course as time permits.  For those new to the sport, a dog-friendly small obstacle course with helpful instruction will also be available for you and your dog to give agility a try.  Click for information on Rocky Mountain Agility or by calling Zona Butler at 303-420-0123.
  • ANGELYNE THE AMAZING DEAF CATTLE DOG - Eric Melvin has been around dogs most of his life yet in December 2005 he realized his ultimate purpose and potential with them when he adopted Angelyne, an 8 week old female Australian Cattle Dog.   After learning that Angelyne was born deaf, Eric was faced with some hard choices; returning her to the breeder, surrendering her to a shelter, having her euthanized or keeping her and trying to give her a normal life.  Eric had fallen in love with Angelyne prior to learning of her deafness and decided to keep her and give her a purpose.
Since 2006 Eric and Angelyne have been performing an inspirational trick and obedience show and speech for people of all ages.  Angelyne responds to over 40 different hand, non-verbal and body language commands while executing obedience and amazing tricks.  Eric and Angelyne offer a unique, sincere and educational form of entertainment. Eric’s work with Angelyne and sharing their bond and talents with others has proven to be the most important thing he may ever do.   And for Angelyne, well, she was born to work and she also knows her purpose. You can email Eric and Angelyne or call 970-222-4924.
  • PUPESSORI - Musical Freestyle is a choreographed musical program performed by handlers and their dogs.  The object of musical freestyle is to display the dog and handler in a creative, innovative and original dance, using music and intricate movements to showcase teamwork, artistry, costuming, athleticism and style in interpreting the theme of the music.  Pupessori’s dancing dogs under the direction of Christine Shedron, a Certified Professional Dog trainer have been together for approximately 3 years.   Pupessori’s dogs have performed at Heritage Square, Frisco’s 4k run to benefit the animal shelter, assisted living homes, Golden’s Christmas parade, Brown Dogs Schools adoption party and miscellaneous events.  For more information, you can email Pupessori.
  • MEET ELAINE MARLIER, AUTHOR OF THE “WITHOUT A HOME” BOOKS – Local author Elaine Marlier created, wrote and self published a series of books about animal adoptions entitled – Without A Home.  Each book is a wonderful and unique collection of short stories about animals who unexpectedly find themselves – without a home.  Through the animal’s point of view, and their own words, you will follow their journeys of life before the shelter, their stay at the shelter, and learn of their incredible new lives with the people who have given them that second chance at life.  You will even be reminded of some of life’s most important lessons, while learning to understand the bond between the human and the animal that can only form when one saves the life of an animal.  You will not find her books in bookstores, but you will find them at many events in conjunction with animal adoptions throughout the state of Colorado.  Donate to the Colorado Humane Society, and she will autograph and give you the book for free!  To order books online, visit their Web site or contact them via email.
