Full Schedule of Fun Day for the Dog Events and Demonstrations
Fun Day for the Dogs is pleased to announce an exciting day of activities to be held on Sunday, September 19th as part of the 2010 Summerset Festival. These events are free to spectators and their furry friends! (Note: current rabies tag and ID tag are required and dogs must be leashed.) There will be dog-related businesses selling favorite treats, apparel, toys and all sorts of fun pet stuff. Many of your favorite pet charities will be present so this is your chance to adopt that cute puppy or older dog you’ve been talking about adding to your family. Bring your pet-
related questions – vets and pet care experts will be present with answers and advice. Best of all, there will be fun activities for you and your dog to participate in – learn how to take your dog through an agility course…show your furry best friend how to catch a Frisbee…pick up some special treats for Fido…or have a unique portrait made.
A new sponsor to Summerset, PETCO will introduce their line of Natural products for pets and people to experience everything today’s natural pets need to live a healthy, natural lifestyle. Talk with a pet nutritionist, while the dogs do the sampling! See the latest and greatest in natural grooming. Owners can learn how the age-old technique of yoga can benefit not only them, but also their pets. Visit www.petco.com!
Deer Creek Animal Hospital will be back as this year’s Fun Day for the Dogs Stage sponsor. They will be on-site to offer educational and entertainment programming, ranging from pet health to obedience training. Be sure to visit their booth during the event, meet their staff and watch for their informative sessions. Visit www.dcah.com for more information about their services and expertise.
In addition, we are pleased to have other attractions at Fun Day for the Dogs this year:
will be hosting a two day event this year! Frisbee dogs! Leaping Labs, Awesome Aussies and Crazy Collies will be on hand for 2 days of fun with frisbees! The competition, hosted by the Colorado Disc Dogs, is open to anyone with a dog! Bring a leash and some water and get ready for the action:
Saturday will be a UFO Local event, and the final competition in the Colorado State Championship series. Teams will be competing for UFO World Cup points, and prizes will be awarded. With the Colorado State Championship on the line, the final event in the state series is sure to be competitive and amazing! More information about the UFO World Cup can be found here: www.ufoworldcup.org.
Sunday will feature a long distance competition - the "UFO Longshot". Consistency will pay off as teams throw longer and longer with each throw. The Colorado Disc Dogs will also perform freestyle demonstrations between divisions, where athletic skill and grace are choreographed to music.
The Colorado Disc Dogs are a front-range based frisbee dog club that promote the sport of "Canine Disc" by hosting competitions, performing for sporting events and donating time and money to support local charities and humane organizations. More information can be found at: www.coloradodiscdogs.com.
will be sponsoring and providing an AGILITY FUN MATCH for all breeds and sized dogs. Agility is a dog sport played for fun or there are local competitions. The dog and handler work as a team with the handler safely maneuvering their dog around the agility obstacle course. There is also Teacup dog agility for all dogs 17" inches and smaller utilizing smaller equipment and shorter courses. Agility is a fast, fun and active way to teach your dog to obey you while off or on lead.
To participate in the Fun Match, the dogs must have some agility experience. A $5 entry fee will be donated to the Summerset Festival to benefit the Foothills Foundation. The Match will start at 10:00 am and continue until all runs are complete. Sign up your dog when you arrive - in the height you wish to jump. The same course will be used for all runs with changes to the course as time permits. For dogs new to the sport, a dog-friendly small obstacle course with helpful instruction will also be available for you and your dog to give agility a try. A $1 donation will also be donated to the Summerset Festival to benefit the Foothills Foundation. Information on Rocky Mountain Agility can be obtained at www.rmagility.com or by calling Zona Butler at 303-420-0123.
(as seen on Animal Planet, ESPN and the Outdoor Channel) will be demonstrating their training program that results in a happy, confident, and satisfied owner as well as a happy, confident, and obedient dog. Program demos include puppy management, basic and advanced obedience, behavior modification, aggressive dog training, one-on-one and group training—all aimed at giving you and your dog the highest levels of fun and control, even around severe distractions. It’s hard to forge a deep friendship with your dog when he’s chewing up your furniture, soiling your carpets, jumping uncontrollably, or nipping at your friends and kids! Their training methodology puts you in charge so you can move beyond bad behavior and begin to more thoroughly enjoy your relationship with your dog. Visit www.sitmeanssit.com for more information or call 720-362-DOGS (3647). Mention that you found out about them here and get $50 off your program fee.
Eric Melvin realized a new purpose for his life shortly after learning that his female Australian Cattle Dog Angelyne was born completely deaf. Learning the shocking news when Angelyne was only 14 weeks old, Eric was faced with some hard choices; returning her to the breeder, surrendering her to a shelter, having her euthanized or keeping her and trying to give her a normal life. Eric had fallen in love with Angelyne prior to learning of her deafness and decided to keep her; developing her special skills and creating a new way of life and purpose for them both. Since 2006 Eric and Angelyne have performed for thousands of people with their heart-warming story and inspirational trick demonstration.
Eric has taught Angelyne to respond to over 40 different hand, non-verbal and body language commands. Offering a unique, sincere and educational form of entertainment, their presentation will touch your heart and mind. For more information please visit www.amazingangelyne.com or call 970-222-4924.
